What is Fidyah?

Fidyah is a charitable payment made when a person is unable to fast and has no realistic ability to make up the fast later.

It is a mercy. Fidyah allows someone to fulfil their responsibility through feeding others, when fasting itself is no longer possible.

“…there is a ransom: the feeding of one needy person.” - Qur’an 2:184).
