Communications and Ethical Fundraising Policy

Al-Ihsan Foundation is committed to ensuring that all communications and fundraising activities are conducted in an ethical, transparent, lawful and accountable manner.

We are committed to representing our work accurately to the communities we serve, our donors, partners and the public. We also uphold high standards of integrity, respect and stewardship in the way we communicate, raise funds and report on impact.

Our commitment

  • being truthful, accurate and clear in all communications and fundraising materials
  • conducting fundraising in a manner that is ethical, respectful and lawful
  • protecting the dignity, rights, safety and privacy of beneficiaries in all representations
  • providing donors with clear information about how funds are used and the impact achieved
  • ensuring funds are applied for the purposes for which they are given, or in line with our stated mission
  • handling complaints fairly, promptly and transparently
  • protecting donor information in accordance with applicable privacy laws
  • maintaining high standards of governance, accountability and financial stewardship
  • ensuring development and humanitarian activities are clearly represented in communications and fundraising

Our standards

Our Communications and Fundraising Policy aligns with recognised regulatory and sector standards, including:

  • ACFID Code of Conduct
  • ACFID Fundraising Charter
  • ACNC Governance Standards
  • Relevant Australian fundraising, privacy and consumer protection laws
  • DFAT requirements, where applicable

These standards guide how we communicate with the public, engage supporters, manage donations and represent beneficiaries.

Ethical communications

Al-Ihsan Foundation is committed to communications that are:

  • truthful and not misleading
  • respectful of the dignity and agency of beneficiaries
  • evidence-based and capable of substantiation
  • transparent about the purpose and use of funds
  • careful in the use of stories, images and personal information
  • compliant with safeguarding, privacy and consent requirements

We do not use exploitative imagery, misleading claims, or undue pressure in our fundraising or public communications.

Responsible fundraising

We are committed to fundraising practices that:

  • clearly state the purpose of each appeal
  • use donated funds for the purpose stated, or in accordance with our mission where disclosed
  • respect donor restrictions or return funds where restrictions cannot be met
  • avoid commissions, bonuses or incentive-based payments for fundraising
  • maintain accurate records and transparent reporting
  • protect public trust and confidence in our work
