Environmental Sustainability Policy
Al-Ihsan Foundation is committed to environmental stewardship and responsible resource management across all our humanitarian and development work.
We recognise that climate change, environmental degradation, pollution, water scarcity, deforestation and unsustainable resource use disproportionately affect vulnerable communities. We are committed to reducing environmental harm and promoting sustainable, climate-aware practices across our programs, partnerships and operations.
Our commitment
- designing programs that consider environmental risks, climate impacts and long-term sustainability
- minimising ecological harm across our activities and operations
- promoting responsible water use, waste reduction and sanitation practices
- supporting climate resilience in vulnerable communities
- integrating environmental risk management into program design and implementation
- encouraging environmentally responsible procurement, packaging and project delivery
- ensuring partners and contractors meet our environmental standards
- monitoring environmental risks and responding to environmental incidents appropriately
Our approach
Our Environmental Sustainability Policy supports practical action across our work, including:
- water conservation and responsible water management
- waste minimisation and safer disposal practices
- sanitation solutions that protect soil, groundwater and waterways
- climate-aware and low-impact project design
- community awareness on environmental health, hygiene and sustainability
- ongoing environmental risk assessment, monitoring and improvement
Our standards
Our approach is informed by relevant sector and governance frameworks, including:
- ACFID Code of Conduct
- DFAT Environmental and Social Safeguards
- ACNC External Conduct Standards
These standards help guide how we identify, manage and reduce environmental risks in both Australian and overseas operations.
Reporting concerns
Environmental concerns, unsafe practices, pollution incidents or potential environmental harm should be reported as soon as possible through our complaints process.
