Safeguarding of Vulnerable Persons and PSEAH Policy

Al-Ihsan Foundation is committed to protecting the rights, dignity, safety and wellbeing of all vulnerable persons, including adults at risk. We maintain zero tolerance for exploitation, abuse, and harassment in any form, including sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (PSEAH).

This commitment applies across all of our activities, programs, partnerships and operations in Australia and overseas.

Our commitment

  • safeguarding vulnerable persons in all areas of our work
  • promoting a culture of dignity, safety, inclusion and respect
  • preventing exploitation, abuse, neglect and harassment
  • maintaining a zero-tolerance approach to sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment
  • applying a survivor-centred approach in the way concerns are received and managed
  • ensuring clear reporting and response procedures
  • screening, vetting and training staff, volunteers, contractors and partners
  • managing safeguarding and PSEAH risks across programs, partnerships and operations
  • requiring partners, contractors and suppliers to meet equivalent safeguarding standards

Prohibited conduct

Al-Ihsan Foundation strictly prohibits any form of exploitative, abusive or inappropriate conduct of a sexual nature. Prohibited conduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • any form of exploitation, abuse or harassment
  • inappropriate or exploitative conduct involving children
  • intimate or exploitative relationships with beneficiaries or individuals receiving assistance
  • transactional relationships involving the exchange of money, employment, goods or services for sexual acts
  • relationships where a power imbalance may result in exploitation or coercion
  • grooming behaviours or online exploitation

Any breach of these standards is treated as serious misconduct and may result in disciplinary action, termination of engagement, and referral to relevant authorities.

Our safeguarding framework is informed by key national and sector standards, including:

  • ACFID Code of Conduct
  • DFAT PSEAH Policy (2024)
  • ACNC External Conduct Standards

These frameworks guide our approach to prevention, risk management, reporting, response and continuous improvement.

Reporting concerns

All concerns, suspicions or incidents involving exploitation, abuse or harassment must be reported as soon as possible through the appropriate channels.

Review and accountability
