This Ashura, millions of your brothers and sisters across Gaza, Uganda, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will break their fast with little or nothing to eat.

What is The Day of Ashura
Ashura is one of the most sacred days in the Islamic calendar. It is a day when fasting expiates the sins of an entire year.
The Hadith on Fasting Ashura
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,
“Fasting the day of Ashura, I hope Allah will accept it as expiation for the year before.”
— Muslim
It is from Allah's immense mercy upon us that just by fasting one day, He expiates the (minor) sins of a whole year.
Why Feed the Fasting on Ashura?
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever gives food for a fasting person to break his fast, he will have a reward like theirs, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest.”

When is Ashura
Ashura falls on the 10th day of Muharram, the Month of Allah ﷻ, one of the four sacred months in Islam. In 2026, Ashura is expected to fall on Friday 26 June, although the exact date may vary depending on the sighting of the moon.
Ashura 2026 is observed on the 10th of Muharram. The first of Muharram is estimated to be on Tuesday 16 June 2026, with exact dates depending on official moon sighting.
