Zakat al-Fitr must be paid:

1. Before the Eid prayer

It is best to give it:

1. In the last days of Ramadan
2. Early enough so it reaches those in need before Eid

If paid after Eid:

1. It is still charity
2. But it no longer fulfils the obligation of Zakat al-Fiṭr
